Syria’s President Assad bans GMOs in food ‘to preserve the health of human beings’

Assad Syria

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, where more than 33,000 people have been killed in 19 months of conflict, issued a law on GM food Thursday to preserve human life, state-run SANA news agency reported.

Assad, whose forces are locked in a bloody confrontation with armed rebels opposed to his rule, “has approved a law on the health security of genetically modified organisms… to regulate their use and production,” SANA reported.

The law is meant “to preserve the health of human beings, animals, vegetables and the environment,” the agency added.

Violence in Syria has killed at least 33,000 people, most of them civilians, since it erupted in March last year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.

The revolt began as pro-reform protests but morphed into an armed insurgency when demonstrations were brutally crushed, with some 100 dead each day.

  1. I think we need more information on the rebels that actually let of this gas bomb to create a situation where they can allow the USA and its bullies to go in and take over.

The NWO has this and other places in its sights to create the lll world war

  3. Wrong John Cook. Syria girl is pro Assad as she clearly states in her interviews. And who has still any illusions about the brutality of the US and Israëli regime. so whether is regime is brutal or not is not the point whether people outside should be for or against an attack. Research hindsight of Iraq and find how many people are deeply ashamed about that and what happened there, believing not the attack/invasion should never have happened. Who does not remember the WMD in Iraq. What country fares better after all the socalled arab springs and what can syrian and iranian people expect to benefit from such an attack. Israel claims to be no part of this war. So why have they done several bombings, why are they hearing hard explosions on the Golan height with many israeli military having been sent there. Is war just the ultimate moneymaking machine at the same time serving the plans for worldpopulationreduction and the US as police of the whole world all of humanity. Who then wants the Patriot Act, or a Guantánamo bay or any other US secret prison all over the world?

    • Well said… As martin Luther King said “those who love peace must learn to organise as effectively as those who love war” and we all will benefit from fact checking everything… sheesh sounds like hard work. But hey, just ask a dying soldier in the 2nd world war if he appreciates us doing some hard work to preserve what he has given his life to save…option B..we all get recruited for yet another war, I’m for the Option A.. give peace a chance..

  4. People here in the west only get lies instead of information about Assad – to put it in a nutshell he inherited a rather brutal regime from his father (he was a dentist or something in England I think) and has been trying to reform it against hard line characters powerfully from his fathers day.
Search for “SyriaGirl” on uTube – she’s not especially pro Assad but tells the truth about what’s going on there, and NOBODY wants these terrorists to control them. There are elections just next year. It’s just not fair what NATO (Israel and USA) is doing to her country.

  5. Yet another reason for NATO powers to want him dead, along with being the last secular Arab leader in the Middle East.

  6. Great. Monsanto will have the US military in country in no time. GMO food, central bank, and puppet government loyal to the bankers in charge is right around the corner… I can almost smell the burning phosphorus.

  7. If the NATO mafia is going to fail to destroy Syria, it will be a good country to live in. This move is going to infuriate the GMO mafia in US, Canada and Europe.
